A direct and longterm response to the growing number of young people affected by war and conflicts in their home countries.
The images of war in Ukraine have thrust us back to the Great War, where pictures of innocent children and civilians suffering are burned into our hearts and minds.
Mountain Seed Foundation was established in 2021, with the goal of providing mental health support to help children and their families caught in the war-zones of Europe, particularly in Ukraine. As a veteran-led foundation, we understand the issues and struggles these families will face each day, as well as the long term effects of the trauma they have endured. We believe nature provides healing and peace, which is the basis for our mountain-based camps.
These camps provide an atmosphere carefully designed to heal through art, therapy, skill-building, and mentoring from a team of professionals who volunteer their time. The Mountain Seed team establishes a meaningful, long term relationship with these families to ensure lasting healing and a strong network to help with the uncertainty of returning to a country at war. We survive on private and corporate donations and strive to partner with like-minded companies who share our belief in the power of community and nature to heal and grow.
Mountain Seed Foundation (MSF) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that provides healing to children and families from war-torn countries. We accomplish this through a variety of experiential and mountain-based healing programs combined with tailored therapy.
We believe in the healing power of nature; especially powerful when combined with tailored therapy in the outdoor space.
MSF was founded by Nathan Schmidt, a U.S. Marine who served in war-torn countries during his career. Through his own experience with PTSD and its impacts on his family, he grew to recognize the importance of mental health support, and found a powerful way to cope and heal through experiences in nature, most notably in mountaineering.
