Program Overview

Thanks to the generous support of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, we launched our Healing Base Camp program in western Ukraine in May 2025. Since then, the program has continued to run year-round, expanding our reach and allowing us to support a growing number of Ukrainian families on their healing journey.

Modeled after our flagship Healing Base Camp in Austria, the program blends guided mountain climbing with professional psychological support and education, helping families rebuild strength, connection, and hope together.

Construction Timeline

This site was carefully chosen by our team. It was a blank rock face that had to be developed from scratch. Our team of professional Mountain Guides traveled to Ukraine multiple times in order to prepare the site for families.

Healing Base Camp Ukraine is now fully led by trained Ukrainian professionals, expanding access to mental health support for families affected by war.

In May 2025, members of the Mountain Seed Foundation core team traveled to Ukraine to launch the country’s first Healing Base Camp, with a focus on building local capacity from day one.

During the initial week, our team worked side by side with Ukrainian mountain guides, psychologists, art therapists, and administrative staff—modeling the program in real time and transferring the tools, structure, and philosophy behind our approach.

In the second week, leadership intentionally shifted to the Ukrainian team. With ongoing guidance, local staff took the lead in delivering the program, ensuring it is locally driven, culturally grounded, and sustainable.
